We are inundated with a plethora of choices.  We have so many choices to make each day; we become overburdened.  Although we cannot avoid these choices, often, these choices cause inertia and prevent us from moving forward.  How can we break free from the choices we must make and stop allowing them to shackle us?  How can we make better choices and learn from the good and bad choices we have made?  In this session, Past International President, Accredited Speaker, Robert Barnhill will explore ways to move past the wall of choices and discover a more rewarding, fulfilling life.

He practiced on cows and horses in Idaho’s cowboy culture for 13 years. When he got tired of harsh western winters he moved to New Zealand. He was a research vet Down Under for ten years and moved back to Milwaukee in March.

Morgan has also been a Toastmaster for two decades. He joined because he was afraid of public speaking. The organization created a monster. He knows second place very well – he was runner-up in the Region I Humorous Speech Contest twice. He was the second-place finisher in the 1993 International Speech Contest final. In 1994 he returned to win the World Championship of Public Speaking.

Dr. Sidney Goss is a professor of sociology at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology (SDSMT). In his 30-plus years at this institution he has held numerous positions including Dean, Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs, Department Chair and Director.

Dr. Goss holds a Ph.D. in Sociology and Masters Degrees in Education and in Sociology. In addition to his positions at SDSMT, he was the founding Executive Director of the Journey Museum, and spent a year as Regents’ Fellow with the South Dakota Board of Regents. Dr Goss is active in numerous organizations, currently serving on the Board of Directors of the Mount Rushmore Society, the Crazy Horse Memorial, and the Northern Plains Eye Foundation. His past service includes Chairman of the Rapid City Convention and Visitors’ Bureau, Chairman of the Rapid City Public School Foundation, President of the South Dakota Humanities Council, Vice Chairman of the Rapid City Area Chamber of Commerce and President of the Rapid City Rotary Club. He recently chaired the Black Hills United Way fund drive, and has chaired the Children’s Miracle Network Board of Directors as well. His numerous public appearances include thirteen years as co-host of the Children’s Miracle Network Broadcast, and 9 years as the emcee for the Mount Rushmore Fireworks celebration, hosting 30,000 attendees each July. His socio-economic impact testimony at the recent Department of Defense BRAC Commission was cited by Governor Rounds as instrumental in the preservation of nearby Ellsworth Air Force Base.

A popular professor and speaker, Dr. Goss has received numerous awards and citations including last year’s “President’s Award for Outstanding Professor.”

Description The Veterans Administration in Fargo has had a Toastmaster Club since 2000. This community club has been distinguished every year except one. Leadership at the Veterans Administration in Fargo recognizes the value of Toastmasters and regularly endorses membership. Why? Since it’s inception, the club has given back to the facility and the community. This presentation will focus on how a corporate or community club can give back to an organization, host location, or the community. VAMROC TALK is proud of its legacy and is excited to share ideas and successes. Storytelling is an art, but it is also a science.  This workshop will help you create a more dynamic, vivid story.  It starts with plot and characters, then moves on to word selection and body language.  Handouts, live demonstration, and question-and-answer period.
